So i've been trying to find if you said the dvd drive motor for the stroboscope project had hall sensors but i figured it might be faster to just ask...

Is the xbox dvd drive motor sensorless??

Thanks

The particular ones I used were sensorless. But out of 6 broken Xbox drives I looked at,  two did have Hall-effect sensors in them (although I suspect they were OEM replacements rather than original units). I tried to explain it in better detail in the other post about Xbox spindle drives here .
